Diary of an unknown Union soldier [manuscript], 1864 March 9-May 9.

These incomplete leaves of an unknown Union soldier's diary "picked up during the war" relate events near Martinsburg, [W.] Va. The soldier briefly mentions his reading, attendance at church services, work of the Christian Commission including the distribution of testaments and spiritual reflections. Of interest is a short account of his visit to an accused wife murderer worried about the fate of his four children. There are two brief references of General William Woods Averell in camp.
